Beaufort County offenders could soon be locked up in their home for punishment, according to a report in the March 26 edition of The Island Packet.
Cassie Foss' article describes a recent, three-part-proposal put to County Council for a vote last week. They approved the first measure, and are preparing to hold a public meeting before voting on the second and third parts.
If the proposal is ultimately approved, then some low-risk, non-violent, adult and juvenile offenders will have to pay for an electronic ankle bracelet and be forced to remain in their homes as they await trial. The new plan would not, however, pertain to those awaiting trial from the state court.
Stay tuned for updates from today's meeting. Until then, check out what the Island Packet has to say.
