The Post and Courier profiles the man who is a major force behind the preservation of historic Flowertown area, Heyward Hutson.
One of the society's most significant accomplishments has been the purchase and preservation of the old Summerville Town Hall with private funds. Hutson's great-great-grandfather, Robert I. Limehouse, built the hall. The group also is responsible for saving the Dorchester County Hospital building, now used as a county services building.
Hutson strives to maintain the features that drew the first flood of visitors to Summerville more than 150 years ago. A significant portion of those who visited did so because a congress of physicians meeting in Paris in 1898 declared it one of the healthiest places in the world and excellent for recovering from respiratory illnesses.
