Update January 20, 2012: Goodwill sent us a news release that the new Carolina Forest store will open on February 16, 2012.

The new Goodwill Retail Store will open its doors February 16, 2012.  The store is located at 2164 Oakheart Road in Carolina Forest. “By expanding our services we are expanding the opportunity for people to donate, and therefore expanding our ability to further achieve our mission,” said Robert Smith, CEO and President for Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina.

The new 15,000 square foot retail store features an 8,500 square foot retail area with a brightly lit, clean interior and a convenient drive-through donation center for donors. Also planned to open during the grand opening is a 1,500 square foot Job Link Center which will offer individuals free employment services such as access to computers for job searches, assistance with resumes and other resources that help to ensure economic independence.

“When people have economic independence, they tend to be happier, more confident and contribute more to their community,” said Smith.

First Report: A sign of the economic times? Horry County has acquired 5 large Goodwill retail outlets in just 4 years.

The 5th store just broke ground and will be located in the Forest Square shopping center off Carolina Forest Boulevard and Postal Way. The other existing Goodwill stores are located in Little River, Surfside Beach, Conway, and North Myrtle Beach. The Carolina Forest store plans to be open for business by Spring and the combined stores will employ nearly 300 people. Goodwill Industries is a non-profit operation and they offer employment to disabled people. WPDE has a nice write-up about the stores. Read it here.
