The travelling exhibit, "The Life and Times of Congressman Robert Smalls" is coming to the Tabernacle Baptist Church in downtown Beaufort.
Smalls first came into public attention after he stole a Confederate steamer ship, the Planter.
The exhibit will be in Beaufort April 5 through June 19 at 907 Craven Street. The site is less than 10 feet from Smalls' grave site and monument.
There will be an opening on April 5, Smalls' birthday, at 6:30 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with speaker Congressman James A. Clyburn.
