Susan and Kevin Johnson will host the "Boroughs Helping Boroughs" dinner at The Grocery on Monday, December 3, to benefit those in the New York City boroughs affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Along with chef Johnson, participating chefs from the Cannonborough and Elliotborough neighborhoods of downtown Charleston, S.C. include Josh Keeler of Two Boroughs Larder, Mike Lata of The Ordinary, John Ondo of Lana Restaurant & Bar, Robert Stehling of Hominy Grill and Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca. Each chef will prepare a course paired with wine donated by one of six different, local purveyors, and Bill Bowick and David Bouffard from Sugar Bakeshop and Lauren Mitterer from WildFlour Pastry will provide dessert.
"After the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, I wanted to do something from our culinary community to help the communities that are now so in need,” said chef Johnson. “When I brought up the idea with this group of neighborhood chefs, everyone agreed to participate without hesitation."
The event begins at 6 p.m., and the cost is $150 per person, including tax, with 100% of the proceeds donated to hurricane relief efforts. In lieu of gratuity for the servers who are donating their time, the event is accepting additional contributions that will also go to the charity. Seating is limited and for reservations, please call The Grocery at (843) 302-8825.
The Grocery is located at 4 Cannon Street and complimentary parking is available in a lot adjacent to the restaurant.
