Beach renourishment efforts are ahead of schedule at Folly Beach County Park and officials expect it to be open in time for the July Fourth holiday.

Two years ago the South Carolina shore was torn apart by Hurricane Irene and parts of Folly beach County Park were washed away into the sea and the park was closed. Now officials are hoping that repair work could reopen the park by late summer.

Folly Beach County Park remains closed after heavy erosion, but stabilization work is under way and 175,000 cubic yards of sand have recently begun to make their way back to the beach.
